SUDDS Team Wins Gold at Triangle Startup Weekend

"Educators and entrepreneurs converged during the latest iteration of Triangle Startup Weekend in Raleigh, NC, to brainstorm and launch ideas aimed at solving problems in the K-12 system. During the final hours of the event Feb. 22, 10 teams scrambled to finish demos of products designed to address issues such as student engagement, parent-teacher communication, and funding shortages. Confrey and Maloney address EHR Program Officers at NSF Methods at Midday

SUDDS (Scaling Up Digital Design Studies) came out of Jere Confrey’s extensive work in mathematics education in both academic and corporate settings. Although the software industry uses agile methods to engage in lean product prototyping, their development process often lacks an extensive and up-to-date research base. On the other hand, change often accrues gradually in academic settings, and valuable academic research progresses in isolation, without resulting in usable and scalable design solutions to persistent problems.
